Roller & Solar Shades
Clean, simple shades in hundreds of fabrics — from a soft filtered glow to complete darkness.
Day and night in one window. A double shade puts two shades on one bracket — for example, a solar shade in front for daytime glare and view, and a room darkening shade behind it for privacy and sleep.
Overview
Choose from hundreds of roller and solar fabric designs and textures, including dozens of GREENGUARD certified solar fabrics. Shades come with a standard wrapped hem bar and are available for single or double shade operation. Roller shades roll up neatly at the top of the window, take up very little space, and work in any room, from bedrooms and media rooms to offices and patio doors.

Roller or Solar — Which Is Right for You?
Roller Shades
- Light filtering fabrics soften the light and give daytime privacy
- Room darkening fabrics have a backing that blocks light, for bedrooms and media rooms
- Woven textures, linens and solids in 31 styles and 200 colors
- Privacy day and night
| Solar Shades
- Woven screens that cut heat and glare while you keep your view
- The openness is how much of the weave is open: 1% gives the most privacy and glare control, 10% the most view
- Blackout solar fabrics are also available
- Most privacy in daylight; at night, with lights on inside, you can see in — pair with a double shade for night privacy

Operating Systems
| Control | How it works | | Continuous Loop | Pull the bead chain and the shade stops and holds at any height. The chain stays the same length no matter where the shade is. Color-coordinated plastic chain is standard; stainless steel and brass-finish metal chains are available. Geared and spring-assist clutches make large, heavy shades easier to raise. | | Cordless | No chain at all. Raise and lower the shade by hand from the bottom hem bar. An adjustable spring sets how fast it rises. | | Battery Motorized | Somfy® motor powered by a battery wand, or by a built-in rechargeable battery that can be kept charged with a small solar panel. No wiring needed. | | Wired Motorized | Quiet Somfy® Sonesse® motors on low voltage (24V) or standard 110V power — the choice for the largest shades, home theaters and whole-house automation. |
Motorized shades work by remote control from up to 60 feet away, without pointing at the shade. They can run one at a time or in groups, and connect to a Somfy hub and app for schedules and smart-home control.
Valances and Finishing Touches
| Option | Description | | No valance | The clean, minimal look. Outside mounts come with color-coordinated bracket covers. | | Channel Valance | A slim 3½" valance with an insert of your shade fabric, in a square or round corner style. | | Fascia | An aluminum valance that hides the roll and hardware, in 3", 4" and 5" sizes. Anodized, black, bronze, vanilla or white. | | Cassette | A curved, fully enclosed headbox with a fabric insert to match your shade, in small, medium and large. Anodized, black, bronze, vanilla or white. | | Fabric Valance | A 6" or 8" padded valance wrapped in any roller or solar fabric, with optional decorative keystones. | | Hem bars | Fabric-wrapped hem bar standard. Also available: an internal hem bar sealed inside a fabric pocket, or an exposed aluminum hem bar in anodized, black, bronze, vanilla or white. | | Side & sill channels | Aluminum channels along the sides and sill that close the light gaps for more darkness and privacy. |
Shade Styles
- Single shades up to 144" tall and, with motorization, up to 156" wide. The largest size depends on the fabric, control and valance you choose.
- Double shades — two shades on one bracket, each with its own fabric and control
- Linked shades — two or three shades side by side that operate together with one control, up to 144" overall
- Common cassette — two or three shades under one continuous cassette, each with its own control, up to 192" overall
- Stationary panels — fixed fabric panels that mount with a rod pocket or hook-and-loop strip
Your dealer will measure and confirm the right size, mount and options for each window.
Safety
Cordless and motorized shades are the safest choice for homes with young children and pets because they have no cords or chains. Continuous loop shades come with a chain guide that must be installed to keep the loop tight to the wall.
Care and Cleaning
Roller and solar shades are low maintenance. Vacuum now and then with an upholstery brush. Spot clean with a mild detergent and a soft brush, rinse well, and let the shade dry completely before rolling it up. Do not use heat, bleach, abrasives or solvents.
